Summary of tracking trigger cross section performance for runs
taken this evening.
Run 179096
Linit =4.9E31
SL 1/2 off , SL2 masked ON XFT
SL 3,5 50% gain
SL 4 100% gain
trigger measured reference
------------------ -------- --------
4 GeV single track 900ub 475ub
7 GeV single track 300ub 110ub
two 2 GeV tracks 1.6mb 1.2mb
>six 2 GeV tracks 16.3ub 9.2ub
scenario C 220ub 132ub
two_CMU1.5_PT1.5 1.5ub 1.3ub
CMUP6_PT4 2.0ub 1.7ub
CEM4_PT4 26ub 22ub
CEM8_PT8 1.9ub 1.4ub
Comments:
1. "reference" is cross section expected for standard
operating conditions.
2. Cross section numbers from a combination of XMon
and run summary. Your numbers may vary a bit from mine.
3. Total Fred L1A rate about 16.5kHz at 5E31, which is
about 4-5kHz higher than normal. The additional rate
is coming mostly from the higher scenario C cross section.
4. No SVX in this run, so no SVT triggers at L3. I
looked quickly at non-SVX/SVT L3 paths and they looked ok.
5. Even though the track rates are up, the triggers that
require matched objects (electron=track+EM, muon=track+stub)
have cross sections that are not much higher than the
reference.
6. All triggers listed above use four-layer XFT tracks
except for the CEM8_PT8 trigger.
===============================================================
Run 179097
Linit =4.6E31
SL 1/2 off , SL2 masked ON XFT
SL 3,5 50% gain
SL 4 ~75% gain
trigger measured reference
------------------ -------- --------
4 GeV single track 670ub 470ub
7 GeV single track 220ub 100ub
two 2 GeV tracks 1.2mb 1.1mb
>six 2 GeV tracks 10.0ub 8.5ub
scenario C 163ub 129ub
two_CMU1.5_PT1.5 1.2ub 1.3ub
CMUP6_PT4 1.7ub 1.7ub
CEM4_PT4 23ub 22ub
CEM8_PT8 1.7ub 1.4ub
Comments:
1. The cross sections have dropped, but not by very
much. It looks like the single hit efficiency must still
be pretty high in SL4.
2. Still no SVX/SVT.
==========================================================
Run 179099
Linit =4.3E31
SL 1/2 off , SL2 masked ON XFT
SL 3,4,5 50% gain
trigger measured reference
------------------ -------- --------
4 GeV single track 460ub 460ub
7 GeV single track 154ub 100ub
two 2 GeV tracks 590ub 1.1mb
>six 2 GeV tracks 3ub 8ub
scenario C 86ub 126ub
two_CMU1.5_PT1.5 0.5ub 1.2ub
CMUP6_PT4 0.9ub 1.7ub
CEM4_PT4 17ub 22ub
CEM8_PT8 1.4ub 1.4ub
Comments:
1. We've fallen off the cliff. The scenario C cross
section is now about 67% of reference. The 4GeV track
cross section is about right, and the 7GeV cross
section is still high. This means that we have lost efficiency
and replaced it with fake tracks...that's a purity double whammy.
2. Total L1A rate about 7.6kHz, significantly below where
we would normally run at this luminosity. [Without DPS, we
would normally be at 10-11kHz, then DPS would kick in and
raise the rate to 15kHz.]
3. Still no SVX/SVT. When we integrate the SVX, we will
have no problems with high L1A rate exciting any resonances.
==========================================================
Run 179100
Linit =4.1E31
SL 1/2 off , SL2 masked ON XFT
SL 3,4,5 50% gain, SL4 3-miss for XFT
trigger measured reference
------------------ -------- --------
4 GeV single track 940ub 460ub
7 GeV single track 370ub 95ub
two 2 GeV tracks 1.3mb 1.1mb
>six 2 GeV tracks 17ub 8ub
scenario C 230ub 125ub
two_CMU1.5_PT1.5 1.2ub 1.2ub
CMUP6_PT4 1.9ub 1.6ub
CEM4_PT4 25ub 22ub
CEM8_PT8 2.0ub 1.4ub
Comments:
1. The cross sections are quite a bit bigger with the 3-miss
configuration on SL4. We'll have to await the offline
analysis to see what this does to trigger efficiency.
2. From the standpoint of Level 1, we could conceivably
run the full trigger table in this configuration except at
the highest luminosities. [This scenario C cross section
is a bit big to run @5E31.] We can definitely run the
high pT part of this configuration at any luminosity.
==========================================================
Run 179103
Linit =3.9E31
SL 1/2 off , SL2 masked ON XFT
SL 3,4,5 50% gain, SL4 3-miss for XFT
silicon included
trigger measured reference
------------------ -------- --------
L2_BCHARM_HIGHPT 900nb 500nb
L2_BPIPI_HIGHPT 360 220
L2 Higgs Multijet 104 79
L2 muon+SVT 468 327
Comments:
1. L1 cross sections same as 179100.
2. L1A 13kHz, L2A 275Hz, L3A 45Hz.
3. See comments on 179100 as well. We can run the
standard physics table with 3-miss in SL4 at all
except the highest luminosities.
Summary:
Of course we need to learn about efficiency and
purity of the triggers. We've seen that the fake rate
does not blow us out of the water, which is good.
Just because we're able to recover rate doesn't mean
we've recovered physics. Offline analysis will be
necessary to further evaluate efficiency, fake rates
and other XFT algorithmic possibilities.
