How to Install and Configure a Linux Box for CDF Online Use

The current recommended Linux installation for CDF Online PCs is Fermi RedHat LTS 4.4 /Scientific Linux/, based on RedHat Enterprise. A network installation CD may be obtained from the CD Helpdesk (x2345) Wilson Hall ground floor across from the Argonne Credit Union. Generally the CD does not distribute the full set of installation CDs.

Installation

Post-Installation

After installation is complete, a number of settings must be changed:

Edit /etc/hosts.allow and uncomment the line: sshd: ALL
Add line to /etc/yp.conf file: ypserver b0dau30.fnal.gov
The line domain b0daq server b0dau30.fnal.gov should already be present in this file.
Add line to /etc/auto.master file: /mnt/autofs/cdf /etc/auto.cdf --timeout=600

Create file /etc/auto.cdf with the contents:

Restart the automount daemon: /etc/init.d/autofs restart

Recreate the file /fnal/ups/etc/upsdb_list with the contents:

Create the file ~root/.k5login with the appropriate user kerberos identifiers
Specify the correct time server by running the redhat-config-time GUI application
- Use the default gateway as the time server
Configure print queues by running the redhat-config-printer GUI application
- Create a new queue by clicking on the "New" button
- The name is normally the queue name
- Queue type: "Networked UNIX (LPD)"
- Server: fnprt.fnal.gov
- Command queue names: b0control_hp8000, b0control_hp8000_s, b0ctl_tcolor and b0ctl_tcolor_trans (must set up separate queue for each)
- For more information and a list of available print queues, go to http://fnprt.fnal.gov:631
Request kerberos host key password from http://computing.fnal.gov/cd/forms/strongauth.html so that one can log in remotely to the new machine.
- On this form, click the "Check this box if you've already gotten your principal" box
- Type in your personal Kerberos Principal Name
- Select he option "Host and FTP Principals"
- Type in the new host name in the appropriate box
- Do NOT select "Kerberos Principal for root Access"
When you receive the key password in your e-mail, execute the installation program: /usr/krb5/config/makehostkeys using the same password for both logins and ftp
Enable the two serial ports, create a file called /etc/minirc.ttyS0 with the contents:
```
pr port             /dev/ttyS0
pu baudrate         9600
```
and do the equivalent for the file /etc/minirc.ttyS1 with the contents:
```
pr port             /dev/ttyS1
pu baudrate         9600
```
Then set the device protection to read+write for general users:
```
chmod g+rw,o+rw /dev/ttyS0
chmod g+rw,o+rw /dev/ttyS1
```
On node the node connected to the Beams Division's AcNet subnet, right now node b0dap85, add the following mounts to /etc/auto.cdf and execute the following link:
```
acnet           -fstype=nfs             daesrv:/usr/local/dae
engines         -fstype=nfs             daesrv:/export/engines

ln -s /cdf/acnet /usr/local/dae
```
